About
Charlotte Chamber Music excites and enlightens audiences through professional chamber music performances.
Enriching the Community
Charlotte Chamber Music enriches the Charlotte and surrounding community with inspiring and intimate chamber music performances in urban settings based on the European Tradition, choosing music mostly from the baroque, classical, romantic and contemporary periods, like Hadyn, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart, and Bach among many other esteemed composers.
Innovative and popular
The winner of two ‘Best of the Best’ awards from Charlotte Magazine from 2004 and 2006, Charlotte Chamber Music continues to experience a growing, enthusiastic audience for the performances. The majority of our concerts are free to the public, all while employing the best professional musicians in the region. Often standing room only for the free First Tuesday Concerts or sold out Living Room Concerts, Charlotte Chamber Music is a gem in the crown of the Queen City.
History
It all started in 1995, when the Rector at St. Peter’s Church approached the principal cellist for the Charlotte Symphony, Alan Black. They agreed to create a free lunchtime series for the workers Uptown that would also support the regional musicians by providing additional employment opportunities.
Since then, Charlotte Chamber Music has grown beyond the single lunchtime concert and now performs 2 free 45 minute concerts on the first Tuesday of each month, October through May, as part of the First Tuesday Concerts Series. In addition, born out of the European Tradition for chamber music, a Living Room series performed in the living rooms of gracious hosts was created.
Sharing the Inspiration
Other programming includes an Annual Benefit Concert featuring an outstanding artist from outside the region, and three performances at the Urban Ministry Center for our homeless neighbors.
Generous individuals, corporations, foundations and the Arts & Science Council provide the support needed for Charlotte Chamber Music to perform the innovative free concerts and other programming of the highest artistic quality and musicianship that enrich our community and inspire today’s audiences and future generations.
